[Added 6-20-2016 by Ord. No. 16-21]
Pursuant to §§ 7.52 and 7.53(2m) of the Wisconsin Statutes, the Village Board of the Village of Pleasant Prairie hereby creates a Municipal Board of Absentee Ballot Canvassers and authorizes the centralized counting of absentee ballots on election days as follows:
A.
The Municipal Board of Absentee Ballot Canvassers shall be composed of the Municipal Clerk, or a qualified elector of the municipality designated by the Clerk, and two other qualified electors of the municipality appointed by the Clerk for a term of two years commencing on January 1 of each even-numbered year. The Clerk may appoint additional inspectors under § 7.30(2)(a), Wis. Stats., to assist the Municipal Board of Absentee Ballot Canvassers in canvassing absentee ballots under this section.
[Amended 12-11-2023 by Ord. No. 23-47]
B.
The Village of Pleasant Prairie declares that, in lieu of canvassing absentee ballots at polling places under § 6.88 of the Wisconsin Statutes, the Municipal Board of Absentee Ballot Canvassers shall canvass all absentee ballots at all elections held in the municipality.
C.
The Municipal Clerk shall give at least 48 hours' notice of any meeting of the Municipal Board of Absentee Ballot Canvassers under this section.
D.
The Municipal Clerk, no later than the closing hour of the polls, shall post at his or her office and on the Internet at a site announced by the Clerk before the polls open, and shall make available to any person upon request, a statement of the number of absentee ballots that the Clerk has mailed or transmitted to electors and that have been returned by the closing hour on election day.

A.
Definitions. As used in this section, the following term shall have the meaning indicated:
ELECTION OFFICIAL or OFFICIAL
An individual who is charged with any duties relating to the conduct of an election. The terms include chief election inspectors, election inspectors, greeters, and special voting deputies.
B.
Pursuant to § 7.30, Wis. Stats., the Village Clerk is authorized to select alternate officials, as that term is used by the statutes, in a number sufficient to maintain adequate staffing of polling places. The Village Clerk may select two or more sets of officials to work at different times on election day and may establish different working hours for different officials assigned to the same polling place. Except for inspectors who are appointed under § 7.30(1)(b), Wis. Stats., and officials who are appointed without regard to party affiliation under § 7.30(4)(c), Wis. Stats., additional officials shall be appointed in such a manner that the total number of officials is an odd number and the predominant party under § 7.30(2), Wis. Stats., is represented by one more official than the other party. The Village Clerk may appoint one additional inspector to serve at each polling place without regard to party affiliation, who shall serve as a greeter to answer questions and to direct electors to the proper locations for registration and voting and who shall be available to substitute for other election officials who must leave the room during the voting process.
