(a)Â
The purpose of this article shall be to reduce the volumes of harmful
substances being discharged to the sanitary sewer system, and to reduce
line maintenance and repair costs.
(b)Â
Interceptors and separators for oil, grease, sand and other substances
harmful or hazardous to the building sewer system, the public sewer
or sewage treatment plant or processes shall be provided as required
in this article.

(a)Â
GARAGE — A building or part thereof or a group of buildings,
other than a private garage for the storage of motor vehicles, in
which service station activities may be carried on.
(b)Â
MULTI-FAMILY DWELLING — A dwelling or group of dwellings containing
separate living units for three or more families, but which may have
joint services or facilities or both.
(c)Â
CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER — Any authorized or appointed employee
of the Department of Code Enforcement which may inspect or require
compliance with this article.

(a)Â
Repair garages; gasoline stations with grease racks, grease pit,
or work racks; factories where oily and flammable liquid wastes are
produced; and multi-family dwellings shall install separators.
(b)Â
The interceptor requirement may be waived when in the opinion of
the City Engineer and confirmed by the Code Official, there are no
substances harmful to the City sewers being discharged.
(c)Â
Each interceptor, if required, shall be so installed as to provide
ready accessibility to the cover and means for servicing and maintaining
the interceptor in working and operating conditions. The use of ladders
or the removal of bulky equipment in order to service interceptors
shall constitute a violation.

Size, type and location of each interceptor shall be approved
in writing by the Code Enforcement Officer as required by the provisions
of the BOCA, Basic National Plumbing Code, Article 10, Section P-1002.4.2.

The Department of Code Enforcement shall have the right of access
at all reasonable times to dwelling units, businesses, garages, restaurants
and other buildings, industrial or commercial establishments connected
to the City sewer system. The access shall be for the inspection of
the separators, and compliance with this article.

Any proprietor, operator or owner who violates or fails to comply
with any provision of this article shall be punished as provided in
Section 101.99 of the Administrative Code. Each day's continuance
of a violation of this article shall constitute a separate offense.
