These regulations are adopted under the authority granted by § 101.65, Wis. Stats.
The purpose of this chapter is to promote the general health, safety and welfare and to maintain required local uniformity with the administrative and technical requirements of the Wisconsin Electrical Code.
The scope of this chapter includes the construction and inspection of all electrical work.
The Wisconsin Code, Chp. SPS 316 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code, and all amendments thereto, is adopted and incorporated by reference and shall apply to all buildings within the scope of this chapter.
There is hereby created the position of Building Inspector, who shall administer and enforce this chapter and shall be certified by the Department of Safety and Professional Services, as specified by § 101.66(2), Wis. Stats., in the category of Uniform Dwelling Code Electrical Inspector. Additionally, this or other assistant inspectors shall possess the certification category of UDC and Commercial Electrical [NOTE: Contact the Department of Safety and Professional Services at (608) 261-8500 for certification information].
If a person alters a building in excess of $1,000 value in any twelve-month period, adds onto a building or builds or installs a new building, within the scope of this chapter, they shall first obtain a building permit for such work from the Building Inspector. Any changes to electrical systems that involve extensions shall require permits if over the foregoing thresholds.
The building permit fees shall be determined by the Building Inspector.
The enforcement of this chapter and all other laws and ordinances relating to building shall be by means of the withholding of building permits, imposition of forfeitures and injunctive action. Forfeitures shall be not less than $25 nor more than $1,000 for each day of noncompliance.
The Building Inspector shall keep a log of all inspections completed.
