From and after July 17, 1972, and the posting of appropriate signs as provided herein, it shall be unlawful for any person to leave, stand or park any motor vehicle, trailer, boat or other impediment in any area within the city designated as a fire lane.

The fire chief or his authorized representative is designated to conduct a fire safety study of public streets, highways and alleys within the city and in parking lots commonly used by the public, and is hereby authorized to determine and designate fire lanes as appropriate to the safety and well-being of the people and property of the city.

Upon determination and designation by the fire chief or his representative of a fire lane, the city manager or his duly authorized representative is directed to post appropriate signs in a conspicuous place along such fire lanes, stating in substance that it is a fire lane and that parking is prohibited at any time as set out in section 22.06.041 hereof.

(a) 
The police department is authorized to issue citations to vehicles parked or left in a fire lane in violation of this division, and to immediately remove or cause the removal of the vehicle or impediment to the city pound and to hold the same until claimed by the owner.
(b) 
The police department is authorized to hold the vehicle and to charge a pound fee in accordance with an established schedule before such vehicle will be released.

Any person violating any of the provisions of this division shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction in the municipal court shall be fined in accordance with the general penalty provision found in section 1.01.009 of this code.
