It shall be the responsibility of the city to assign proper numbers for all buildings. A complete record of the numbering of all buildings shall be kept by the city; such record shall be supplemented and amended from time to time when necessary. Building numbers shall be public property and subject to change by the city.

Owners or occupants of buildings in the city are required to place or have placed thereon the proper street number as designated by the city, in some conspicuous place so that the same can be plainly seen and read from the public street, alleyway and/or access on the front and rear of buildings.

A building of multiple structures or occupancies must have an official number assigned to each building and each unit within the building. The official number assigned to each building must be conspicuously posted and displayed both at the front and rear of the building, if the building design permits, or so displayed that it is visible, where possible, from the nearest vehicular access. The official number for each unit within the building must be conspicuously posted on the unit.

The number assigned by the city as required by this article shall be of a durable material, shall be maintained to be completely visible at all times and shall be of a color contrasting to its background. Numbers shall be a minimum of four (4) inches in height and visible from the public street, alleyway and/or access. Houses not visible from the street shall be numbered visibly at the street entrance to the property. Commercial buildings shall have numbers a minimum of six (6) inches in height. All structures shall have numbers placed at the property line when the distance from the point of entrance for public access exceeds 75 feet. Depending on building setbacks, the code official may designate additional locations of numbers or size of numbers. Said numbers shall not [sic] contrast with their background.

It shall be a violation of this article for any person, firm or corporation to use or occupy a building which does not have a proper street number posted and displayed as required by this article.
