The chief of police shall be selected by the city manager, answerable to the city manager and may be terminated by the city manager, with or without cause. The chief of police shall subscribe to such oaths as may be required by law and post such bonds in such sums as the city council shall direct; the premium on said bond to be paid by the city.

The chief of police shall perform all the statutory duties, prescribed by state law, and such other duties as may be prescribed from time to time by the mayor or city council.

The chief of police shall receive such compensation as the city council may set by ordinance or resolution.

The person appointed to the office of chief of police shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, and a person of good moral character. He shall have the minimum educational, training, physical, and mental standards established by the state commission on law enforcement standards and education. As used in this section, the term "resident" means to rent or own a dwelling in 30 aerial miles outside the city limits of Weimar, Texas.
