The city fire marshal shall be selected by the city manager, answerable to the city manager and may be terminated by the city manager, with or without cause. The city manager may engage consultant services as they deem necessary for fire inspection, plan review, and other related responsibilities; and may authorize such contracts with consultants, for such services as the work may require. The fire marshal, at the beginning of each term of office, shall take and subscribe to the official oath of office.

The fire marshal shall perform all the statutory duties prescribed by the laws of the state, and such other duties as may be prescribed from time-to-time by the city manager including those duties outlined in chapter 5 of this code.

The fire marshal shall receive such compensation as the city council may set by ordinance or resolution.

The fire marshal shall submit an annual statement and report to the city manager in January of each year or a statement and report covering the period during which he held the office of fire marshal.

The city manager may appoint one or more assistant fire marshals in the same manner and for the same term as prescribed above when deemed necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the fire marshal.
