(a)
Code enforcement officers shall be appointed by the town manager. The code enforcement officers shall have police powers in the enforcement of the town ordinances and no person or animal shall be permitted to interfere with, hinder, molest or abuse any code enforcement officer in the exercise of such powers and duties.
(b)
No person may be appointed or may claim to be a code enforcement officer or use that title unless he or she holds a certificate of registration or unless the person is required to be licensed or registered under another law of the state.
(c)
Code enforcement means the inspection, improvement, and rehabilitation of environmental hazards in public and private premises by determining the presence of fire or health hazards, nuisance violations, unsafe building conditions, and violations of any fire, health or building regulation, statute or ordinance.
