This article shall authorize for the appointment of reserve police officers for the Lakeview police department serving the City of El Lago, Harris County, Texas, in the manner herein set out.

(a) 
All reserve police officers serving the Lakeview police department shall be appointed by a majority vote of the board of commissioners of the Lakeview police department following and upon nomination of such reserve police officers by the chief of police of the Lakeview police department. Such officers shall receive appointment and hold their office at the pleasure and will of the chief of police and board of commissioners of the Lakeview police department and on good behavior, provided, however, that such reserve police officers may be reappointed to succeeding terms as reserve police officers. A maximum of ten (10) reserve police officers may be appointed to serve at any given time.
(b) 
Following the appointment of such reserve police officers by the board of commissioners of the Lakeview police department, said officers shall be commissioned as reserve police officers of the Lakeview police department by the City of El Lago, Texas and shall in no case assume any duties of police officers of the Lakeview police department without first complying with all requirements of such police officers and being appointed as such under the provisions of Article II of this chapter.

All reserve police officers appointed in accordance with this article shall possess such qualifications as required for reserve police officers under applicable laws and statutes of the state and any other applicable laws or regulations in effect at the time such reserve police officers are appointed.

All reserve police officers appointed in accordance with this article shall act only in a manner supplementary to the police officers of the Lakeview police department, have only the powers, rights and authority as are vested in reserve police officers by the laws and statutes of the state, and shall perform such duties as shall, from time to time, be provided by the order or direction of the police chief of the Lakeview police department, by the order or direction of the board of commissioners of the Lakeview police department, by the ordinances and resolutions of the city council of the City of El Lago, Texas, by the laws of the state, or by their superior officers.

All reserve police officers appointed pursuant to this article shall serve in that capacity without compensation, insurance and other benefits as determined by the city council; provided, however, that nothing in this article shall be construed to authorize or permit a reserve police officer to become eligible for participation in any pension fund created pursuant to state statute to which regular officers may become a member by payroll deductions or otherwise.

All reserve police officers appointed in accordance with this article shall give bond for the faithful performance of their duty.
