Town of Edinburg, VA Article I Mayor

§ 4-1 General powers and duties.

The Mayor shall be the executive head of the Town government and shall perform all duties authorized by the Town Council during his term as Mayor. He shall from time to time recommend to the Council such measures as he may deem needful for the welfare of the Town.

§ 4-2 Duty to preside over meetings of Council.

It shall be the duty of the Mayor to act as presiding officer at all regular or special meetings of the Town Council, and he shall enforce the rules of procedure and preserve order and decorum.

§ 4-3 Appeal of ruling on point of order.

From any ruling by the Mayor on a point of order any member may appeal to a vote of the Council.

§ 4-4 Authority to contract indebtedness.

The Mayor shall not contract any debt or liability for the Town other than those purchases set forth in the Town's Small Purchase Procedures. When required, he shall as agent of the Town, after being duly authorized by the recorded vote of the majority of the Town Council at any regular or special meeting, contract such other debt or liability not included in the Small Purchase Procedures.

§ 4-5 Salary.

The Mayor shall be paid an annual salary, as determined by the Town Council.
