The special restrictions set forth in this division shall apply to the original 49 blocks of inner city Gonzales.

(a) 
The maximum allowable size of signs for a particular building shall be determined on the basis of the number of frontage feet of that building and the following chart:

(b) 
A business may have one or more signs on its facade; however, the total square footage of all signs must not exceed that allowed in subsection (a) above.
(c) 
Subsections (a) and (b) above apply to the front of corner buildings with the exception that a corner building may have additional signs displayed on the side of the building, with the size of such signs to be determined by the side frontage feet of the building. In no event will the total square footage of all signs displayed on the side of a building exceed 40 square feet.
(d) 
The maximum allowable size of off-premise commercial signs for a particular lot or parcel of land shall be determined on the basis of the number of frontage feet of that lot or parcel of land and the following chart:

(e) 
Signs may not be erected closer than 300 feet apart on the same side of a street, avenue, or highway.

The following special restrictions shall apply in any historic district within the city:
(1) 
Exterior neon signs are prohibited.
(2) 
No sign shall be displayed from the parapet or roof of any building.
(3) 
No sign shall be erected, constructed, emplaced, attached, located or displayed unless the sign relates to or advertises a bona fide business conducted in or on the premises to which the sign adjoins.
(4) 
Interior illumination of any sign is prohibited.
(5) 
The light source for exterior illumination shall be a steady light concealed by a hood or other acceptable method of indirect lighting approved by the city building official.
(6) 
Signs resting upon the sidewalk or curb are prohibited, if not properly anchored or weighted against wind.
(7) 
The total of all signage including the sandwich signs must not exceed the regulated amount of signage per street frontage regulation as set forth in Section 3.857. The intent is not to allow clutter.
