The position of municipal judge is hereby created and this individual shall exercise all powers granted to all other municipal judges under state law. Further, the city council shall have the power to appoint an individual to serve as the alternate municipal judge in the absence, inability, or refusal of the municipal judge to act, and such individual shall have all powers which are granted to other persons of similar station by state law.

It shall be the responsibility and power of the city council to appoint the municipal judge and the alternate municipal judge by majority vote.

The term of the appointment of the municipal judges shall be for a period of two years. In the event of vacancy in the judge's position, the City Council shall appoint another person to fill the unexpired term of that judge.

The municipal judge be appointed in odd-numbered years and their terms shall run concurrent with the terms of the Mayor. The appointment of these individuals shall take place at the first meeting of the City Council after the mayoral election or as soon thereafter as is practical.

There shall be no restrictions on the number of years served by the municipal judge in their positions or their qualifications except those imposed by state law.

The salary of the municipal judge, alternate municipal judge, if any, shall be established by the City Council as needed.
