(a)
Except when directed to proceed by a police officer or traffic-control signal, every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop intersection indicated by a stop sign shall cause such vehicle to come to a complete stop immediately prior to entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if there is no crosswalk, shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection.
(b)
A list or inventory of the official posted stop signs and stop intersections are not codified in this section, but shall be kept on file in the office of the city secretary. The chief of police, or his designee, shall maintain an inventory and map of such stop signs and intersections. As each new stop sign is added to the inventory, a notation shall be made to indicate the date of installation and the number of the ordinance authorizing the installation of the traffic-control device. A copy of such updated inventory and map shall be placed on file in the office of the city secretary.
(c)
All stop signs in place on the date of the adoption of this division are ratified and confirmed.
