There shall be established and maintained a Fire Department to protect life and property within the City and to secure the residents of said City from destruction of the property therein and from injury or loss of life.
The Fire Chief shall be the chief administrative officer of the Fire Department. He or she shall, with the approval of the City Manager, appoint and remove the employees of said department and shall perform such duties as may be required of him by the City Council. The Fire Chief shall be appointed by the City Manager, with the approval of the City Council, for an indefinite term. The Fire Chief shall be fully responsible to the City Manager for the administration of his department. He or she may be removed from office by said City Manager, with the approval of the City Council.
The Fire Chief shall have the power to appoint, discharge, suspend, and remove all subordinate personnel of the Fire Department, subject to the official Personnel Policies and Procedures of the city as adopted by the City Council.
