Each owner or occupant of any building situated in the city shall be required to place or permit to be placed on their building, in a conspicuous place, the official street number/address assigned to the property where that building is located, so that the number may be plainly seen and observed from the street on which the building fronts.

(a) 
The numbers required to be placed on a building by this article shall be of a durable material that will not tarnish or corrode, shall be maintained to be completely visible at all times and shall be of a color contrasting to its background. Nothing in this section shall prohibit any number from being painted on the building by any person when such character of material used will, in the judgment of the city official, be equal in strength, durability and service as required of the durable material required above.
(b) 
Numbers shall be a minimum of four (4) inches in height and visible from the street on which the building fronts. Buildings not visible from the street shall be numbered visibly at the street entrance to the property or by the owner or occupant placing the number on a permanent structure that is clearly visible from the street. Depending on building setbacks or other unique characteristics associated with a particular piece of property, a city official may designate additional locations of numbers or size of numbers.

(a) 
The city shall assign official numbers for all buildings. A complete record of the official numbering of all buildings shall be kept by the city which may be supplemented as necessary. Official number assigned by the city are subject to change.
(b) 
In the event a building has not been assigned an official number by the city, the city official charged with enforcing this article, upon application, shall give the proper number for such building. The number assigned shall be consistent with the official numbering assigned to adjacent properties and with the city at-large.

For all apartments and building complexes with multiple structures on one lot or parcel, each structure must have an official number. The official number assigned to each building must be conspicuously posted and displayed both at the front and rear of the building, if the building design permits, or so displayed that it is visible, where possible, from the nearest vehicular access. The numbers must meet the specifications required in this article.

Any person found in violation of any provision of this article shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in accordance with the general penalty provision found in section 1.01.009 of this code.
