Pursuant to the authority granted to the city council under V.T.C.A., Local Government Code, sec. 22.076, the office of city marshal is hereby abolished and the office of chief of police is hereby created, and this office shall be an appointive office.

Such police officer so appointed shall receive a salary or fee of office, or both, as shall be fixed by the city council. Such officer shall hold their office at the pleasure of the city council, and for such term as the city council directs.

The chief of police shall have like power with the sheriff of the county to execute warrants; he shall be active in quelling riots, disorders and disturbances of the peace within the city limits and shall take into custody all persons so offending against the peace of the city and shall have authority to take suitable and sufficient bail for appearance before the municipal court of any person charged with an offense against the laws and ordinances of the city.
