The village treasurer, subject to approval by a majority vote the village board may appoint a deputy treasurer to hold office for an indefinite term subject to removal as provided by law and who shall be authorized to perform the duties of the village treasurer in the absence, sickness or other disability of the village treasurer or during a vacancy in the office of the village treasurer.

The village board may, at its discretion and by a six-sevenths vote of the members elected to the village board, appoint the same person to serve simultaneously as village treasurer as the person it appoints to serve as village clerk. The village board may also, at its discretion, by majority vote appoint the same person to serve as deputy treasurer as that person who it appoints by majority vote to serve as deputy clerk.
