The ordinance codified in this chapter shall be known and may
be cited as the “South San Francisco canine/police dog ordinance.”

As used in this chapter, “police dog” means any
dog specially trained for assistance to law enforcement officers,
and which dog is under the control of a law enforcement officer in
the performance of his duties.

It is unlawful for any person to wilfully or maliciously torture,
tease, torment, beat, kick, strike, mutilate, injure, disable or kill
any dog used by the police department of the city in the performance
of the functions or duties of such department or to unwarrantably
interfere with or meddle with any such dog while being used by the
department or any officer or member thereof in the performance of
any of the functions or duties of the department or of such officer
or member.

Any person or persons who violate this chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished as provided in Chapter 1.24 of this code.
