The office of the City Treasurer is established pursuant to Section 36501 of the California Government Code. The City Treasurer shall be appointed by the City Manager.

The City Treasurer shall receive such compensation and expense allowance as the City Council shall from time to time determine, and such compensation shall be a proper charge against such funds of the City as the City Council shall designate.

The City Treasurer shall perform such duties as are prescribed by Sections 41001 through 41007 of the California Government Code and by any other provisions of law applicable to deposit, investment, and safekeeping of public funds of the City.

The City Treasurer shall furnish a corporate surety bond approved by the City Council for an amount as required by resolution of the City Council. The bond shall be conditioned upon the faithful performance of the duties imposed upon the City Treasurer. The premium for the bond is a proper charge against the City.
