The following minimum standards apply to water system extensions
within the city:
(1) Main
lines.
a. Minimum
diameter: Six inches.
b. Depth:
Three feet, six inches of cover below final grade.
c. Material.
1. Type:
Asbestos-cement pipe.
2. Pressure
rating: 150 pounds per square inch. Field test by American Water Works
Association. Manufactured within the United States.
d. Location:
As per Figure I. Mains shall be looped, with no dead ends serving more
than four lots.
(2) Valves.
a. Locations.
2. At
crosses: Three valves.
3. At
each connection to existing water system: One valve.
b. Type:
Nonrising stem, O-ring seals, Mueller, CCW opening, M.J.
(3) Fire
hydrants.
a. Locations.
1. At
each street intersection and cul-de-sac end.
2. Single-family
residential areas: 600 foot intervals, approximately.
3. Multifamily
or commercial, including reserves: 300-foot intervals.
b. Type:
Mueller Improved, 3-way, CCW opening, M.J.
(4) Fittings.
a. Material:
Cast Iron, cement lined, concrete blocked, M.J.
b. Pressure
rating: 250 pounds per square inch.
(5) Services.
a. Corporation
stop: Mueller H-15,000.
b. Curb
stop: Mueller H-15275, in approved concrete meter box.
c. Pipe
material: Soft copper.
d. Size.
1. Single:
three-fourths inch diameter.
2. Double:
one-inch diameter.
(6) Backfill.
a. Under
asphalt streets: 1.0 sack cement stabilized sand.
b. Other
locations.
1. Sandy
soil must be water-jetted;
2. Other
soil may be compacted by rolling with caterpillar track or other similar
method.
