Except as otherwise authorized by Section 246.2 (A4) of the San Dimas Zoning Ordinance (Ordinance No. 37, as amended), no person shall conduct, manage, carry on, operate, maintain, practice or engage in the occupation, calling or practice of fortunetelling, numerology, astrology, palmistry, phrenology, life reading, crystal gazing, hypnotism, mediumship, prophecy, augury, divination or any like or allied practice which foretells or purports or pretends to foretell future events or in the prophecy of the future, for which a charge, price, fee or payment is charged, asked or received, or any donation received or accepted; provided, that this section shall not prohibit the activities of any religious organization, group, society or denomination or of any church or functions of a religious nature.

No person shall carry on, or practice, exhibit or teach the business or the art or practice of hypnosis, nor teach self-hypnosis to any person undergoing a course of treatment or program of self-improvement except under one of the following conditions:
A. 
The hypnosis or teaching of self-hypnosis is pursuant to the provisions of and for the purposes set forth in Section 2908 of the Business and Professions Code of the state of California, and if performed by a person licensed to practice medicine, dentistry or psychology in the state, or by a person licensed to practice in the state as a clinical social worker or as a marriage and family counselor;
B. 
Nothing in this section shall prohibit a peace officer, as defined in Chapter 4.5 (commencing with Section 830 of Title 3 of Part 2 of the California Penal Code, from utilizing hypnosis in the fulfillment of his or her duties as a peace officer.
