As used in this chapter:
"Club dance"
is any dance held by a bona fide dancing club.
"Dancing club"
is any club or association of persons which conducts dances, other than public dances, for its bona fide members or bona fide guests more than once per month.
"Private room or booth"
is any room, booth, alcove or enclosure every part of which is not clearly visible at all times from the main dance floor located upon the same floor upon which such "private room or booth" is located.
"Public dance"
is the dancing by two or more persons in or upon any premises where any business is conducted to which premises the public is admitted and where such dancing is done or permitted, either as the main purpose or as an incident to some other purpose or for any purpose.
"Public dancehall"
is any place of business where two or more persons dance or are permitted to dance or a place where dancing is conducted or permitted, whether for profit or not for profit and to which the public is admitted, either with or without charge, or in which the public is permitted to dance, either with or without charge.

All public dancehalls or places where public or club dances are held must at all times when open for dancing therein or when dancing is being held therein, be brightly lighted throughout, and the volume of illumination must not vary during the time such dancehall or public dance is open to the public or such club is open to its members or guests.

No person in charge of or assisting in the conduct of any public dancehall or any public dance or club dance shall permit any intoxicated, boisterous or disorderly person to enter, be or remain in, or to assist in any such public dancehall, public dance or club dance; and no person in any intoxicated condition shall enter or remain in any public dancehall, public dance or club dance or conduct himself in a boisterous or disorderly manner in a public dancehall, public dance or club dance.

No person conducting or carrying on a public dancehall, or having charge or control thereof, shall permit any instructor to give instructions in dancing to persons of the opposite sex in any private room or booth in such public hall.

The chief of police and members of the police department shall inspect any and all dancehalls as defined in this chapter and they shall be permitted to enter such dancehalls free of charge for the purpose of inspection.

No person shall conduct any public dancehall or public dance in any room or place in which or through any opening into which alcoholic beverages are sold, dispensed or distributed unless such premises are licensed by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Agency as general on-sale premises with a bona fide eating establishment as defined by Section 23038 of the Business and Professions Code.
