A.
Expiration. The approval or conditional approval of a tentative map shall expire twenty-four months from the date the map was approved or conditionally approved.
B.
Extension. Upon application by the person who filed the tentative map, the planning commission may extend the expiration date for a period or periods not exceeding a total of three years, provided that the application for an extension shall be filed with the city engineer at least thirty days prior to the date upon which the tentative map is due to expire. An application for extension of time shall set forth the reasons for requesting the extension. As a condition to granting an extension of time, the planning commission may impose, without a public hearing, new conditions upon the tentative map necessary to protect the public health, safety or welfare as a result of the extension of time.
D.
Effect of Map Modification on Extension. Modification of a tentative map after approval or conditional approval shall not extend the time limits imposed by this section.
