A. There
is adopted by the city council, for the purpose of prescribing regulations
governing conditions hazardous to life and property from fire or explosion,
the 2 007 edition of the California Fire Code, recommended by the
Western Fire Chiefs Association and the International Conference of
Building Officials, and the whole, thereof, save and except such portions
as are hereinafter deleted or modified. The same is hereby adopted
and incorporated by reference as if set out at length herein, and
the provisions thereof shall be controlling within the limits of the
city.
B. One
copy of such California Fire Code is on file as required by state
law.

The 2007 California Fire Code shall be enforced by the bureau
of fire prevention in the fire department of the city, which is established
and which shall be operated under the supervision of the chief of
the fire department.

Storage of flammable liquids in outside aboveground tanks is permitted provided a use permit is first secured. Procedures for obtaining a use permit are contained in Chapter
17.54 of this code.

Pursuant to Section 3804.2 of the 2007 California Fire Code,
bulk storage of liquefied petroleum gas is restricted inside the city
limits.

Pursuant to Chapter 33 of the 2007 California Fire Code, storage
of explosives and blasting agents is prohibited inside the city limits.

The chief of the fire department shall have power to modify
any of the provisions of the 2007 California Fire Code upon application
in writing by the owner or lessee, or his duly authorized agent, when
there are practical difficulties in the way of carrying out the strict
letter of the code; provided, that the spirit of the code shall be
observed, public safety secured and substantial justice done. The
particulars of such modification when granted or allowed and the decision
of the chief of the fire department thereon shall be entered upon
the records of the department, and a signed copy shall be furnished
the applicant.
