This Section describes the fringe benefits provided by the City and information on your eligibility for benefits. Details regarding each benefit plan are contained in the certificate of coverage. This Handbook does not constitute such a legal document. Benefit plans governed by the Federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) may be further described in formal summary plan descriptions or other legal documents available for your review.

Benefits, as described in this Article, shall not, except those benefits that are required by law, be extended to temporary or part-time employees, unless specifically set forth in this Article.

The City sponsors a comprehensive health-care plan for its full-time employees after the employee has completed a sixty (60) day probationary period. The City's health-care plan is explained in detail the summary plan description, which will be given to each employee. Employees should contact the City Clerk's office to obtain a description of the plans to determine their eligibility, and any applicable costs or premiums to be paid by employee. Coverage is effective the first day of the month following the completion of an eligible employee's probation. Coverage for employee's dependents is available at a cost to the employee.

A. 
The City is a political subdivision as defined in Section 70.600 through Section 70.755, RSMo., and hereby elects to have covered by the Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System all its eligible employees in the following classes:
1. 
Present and future general employees, neither "Police Officer" as defined in Section 70.600, RSMo.
2. 
Police Officer, as defined in Section 70.600, RSMo. All present and future Police Officers.
B. 
The City hereby elects that one hundred percent (100%) of prior employment be considered for prior service credit in computing benefits and contributions to the system.
C. 
The City Clerk or City employee designated from time to time by the City Council shall be authorized and directed to deduct from the wages and salaries of each employee member the member contributions required by Section 70.705, RSMo., and to promptly remit the deductions to the retirement system, together with the employer contributions required by Section 70.730, RSMo.
