[Amended 10-12-1978; at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. II)]
A.
All building sewer connections are subject to the inspection and approval of an inspector who shall be a duly appointed officer of the Town.
B.
The regulations of the Town require that the sewer laterals connecting a building to the town's lines be installed and inspected in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. Furthermore, effective October 13, 1978, the sewer lateral must be tested with either an air or hydrostatic pressure test in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. Therefore, in order to insure that the laterals of the building connected to the Town's lines are installed in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, the Town Plumbing Inspector must include these in his inspections.
All costs of the building sewer and service line to the public sewer shall be borne by the property owner or his agent. Any loss or damage that may directly or indirectly be caused by the installation of the building sewer to the Town system shall be borne by the property owner or his agent.
Each building sewer will be provided with a separate tap or connection to the public sewer and at no time will an additional building serving an individual family, firm, company, association, society, corporation or group be permitted to connect to the service line of any other building. However, a private garage, private workshop or private garden house may be connected to the building sewer line.
[Amended 12-12-1979]
The size and slope of the building sewer line shall be subject to the approval of the inspector. In no event shall the building sewer line be less than four inches in diameter and carry not less than 1/4 inch per foot fall or slope. The sewer line shall be installed in as straight a line and by the most direct route to the public sewer line as possible. All changes of direction shall be made with a long sweep type of fittings. The depth of such lines shall not be less than 18 inches.
The property owner or his agent shall notify the Town when the building sewer is ready for inspection and connection to the public sewer. The Town inspector shall be responsible for the supervision of this installation.
[Amended at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. II)]
All excavations for building sewer installation shall be adequately guarded with barricades, lights and signs to protect the public from hazard. Public property disturbed in the course of the building sewer connections shall be restored to the satisfaction of the Town.
