A. 
In order to protect the public health, safety and welfare, the purpose of this article is to ensure that any person using a multiple-line telephone system can direct dial 9-1-1 without having to dial another number first.
B. 
This article applies to any person who installs or operates a multiple-line telephone system.
A. 
Pursuant to § 1-314 of the Public Safety Article of the Maryland Annotated Code, a person who installs or operates a multiple-line telephone system shall ensure that the system is connected to the public switched telephone network in such a way that when an individual using the system dials 9-1-1, the call connects to the public safety answering point without requiring the user to dial any other number or set of numbers.
B. 
The Calvert County Department of Public Safety is designated the power to enforce this article, and may coordinate with other County departments, state agencies and officials, public entities, or private vendors, to execute 9-1-1 access verification testing of multiple-line telephone systems to ensure compliance with this chapter.
A. 
Any person who violates this article is subject to a fine of $100 for their first offense, and a fine of $200 for their second and each subsequent offense.
B. 
Each day the violation exists is a separate offense.
C. 
No fines shall be imposed prior to June 24, 2024.
