Candidates for city offices shall file with the county auditor a declaration and affidavit of candidacy accompanied by a filing fee as follows:
A. 
A fee of $1.00 must accompany each declaration of candidacy for a precinct office without salary;
B. 
A fee of $10.00 for any office with a compensation attached of $1,000 per annum or less;
C. 
A fee of one percent of the annual compensation for any office with a compensation attached of more than $1,000 per annum.

Each candidate for elective municipal office in the city shall file the declaration of candidacy with the city clerk-treasurer no earlier than the last Monday of July nor later than the next succeeding Friday in the year of the election.

Any candidate may, in writing, withdraw his declaration at any time, but not later than five days after the last day allowed for filing declarations of candidacy. There shall be no refund of the filing fee.

No person, when filing a declaration of candidacy for any election, shall be permitted to use any titles designated in his present or last occupation or profession, including ranks in the armed forces; provided, however, that the provision of this section shall not prohibit the use of a nickname by which a candidate is commonly known; provided further, that should a nickname be used, it shall be in addition to the candidate's given name.

If, by law, the county auditor, as ex officio supervisor of elections, has jurisdiction over such city election, the city clerk-treasurer shall be required to provide the county auditor a list of candidates to be submitted at least 45 days before the date of election.
