The town clerk shall file in his office a certified list of candidates and submit a certified list thereof to the auditors of the counties involved not less than 35 days before the town election.
It shall be the duty of the county auditors to provide places for holding the municipal general election to appoint the precinct election officers; to provide for their compensation; to provide ballot boxes and ballots, poll books and tally sheets, and deliver them to the precinct election officers at the polling places; and to publish notices of said election; provided, that in all elections in which the county auditor has no responsibility by law to conduct said election, the same shall be conducted by the town clerk, unless otherwise provided by special resolution or ordinance.
