The department head of the street department shall be designated as the city superintendent.

It shall be the duty of the city superintendent to inspect and care for all streets, lanes, squares, alleys and public places and all sidewalks upon and along same; to see that the same are properly constructed, renewed, repaired, cleaned and maintained; and to perform such other duties as may be prescribed by ordinance, resolution, or order of the mayor or council.
