There is created a Placer County fire department ("county fire department"). The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection shall serve as the county fire department and perform said duties and functions, as specified in the existing or any extended or amended "Cooperative Fire Protection Services Agreement for Local Agencies" entered into by and between the State of California and Placer County and as required pursuant to state law and county code.

The unit chief of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Nevada Yuba Placer Unit, will serve as the county fire chief for the county fire department. The county fire chief exercises direct supervision over assigned California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection personnel pursuant to the terms of the "Cooperative Fire Protection Services Agreement for Local Agencies" entered into by and between the State of California and Placer County.

The duties of the county fire chief shall be as specified in the terms of the "Cooperative Fire Protection Services Agreement for Local Agencies" entered into by and between the State of California and Placer County, applicable state law, state fire marshal regulations, and any provision in county code relating to fire suppression.
