1505.1.2 Roof coverings within all other areas other than Fire Hazard Severity Zones or a Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI). The entire roof covering of every existing structure where more than 50 percent of the total roof area is replaced within any one-year period, the entire roof covering of every new structure, and any roof covering applied in the alteration, repair, or replacement of the roof of every existing structure, shall be a fire-retardant roof covering that is at least Class B. |
1512.2.1 Roof replacement over spaced sheathing. Where spaced sheathing was originally installed as the supporting material, new solid sheathing shall be added prior to the installation of the new roofing material. |
1512.3.1 Existing wood shingle or shake roofs. Where the application of a new roof covering is proposed over wood shingle or shake roofs, the entire existing surface roofing material including all layers of wood shingle or shake shall first be removed. |
1512.6 Inspections. An inspection shall be required for all reroofing installations upon removal of all existing layers of roof coverings or, where the existing roof covering is to be recovered, prior to the installation of the new roofing material. Prior to such inspection, any damaged areas of the roof deck or structural framing members shall be repaired or replaced with new material. |
