The police officers of the city in order of rank and position are as follows:
Chief of police
Commander
Sergeant
Detective
Police officer.

The mayor of the city shall appoint the chief of police, who shall be confirmed by the city council. The appointment, promotion and removal of officers designated in EMC § 2.76.010 shall be the authority and responsibility of the chief of police subject to provisions of the civil service commission under Chapter 2.72 EMC.

The maximum salaries of police officers shall be as set forth by the city council and approved by the mayor.
