Animals owned by the city police department and used to assist in law enforcement are exempted from the provisions of Chapter 7.01 EMC.

A person is guilty of harming a police dog if he willfully or maliciously beats, kicks, strikes, injures, disables, shoots or kills by any means any dog used by a peace officer in discharging or attempting to discharge any legal duty or powers of his office, or while the dog is being kenneled.
