This chapter is created to define the duties of the mayor and the various commissions appointed from the city council.

The council is the decision making body for the city of Rogue River in addition to those duties as outlined in the Charter.

In addition to those duties assigned to the mayor in the city Charter, the mayor shall make appointments to the various commissions, boards, committees and other offices including vacancies on the city council. The mayor is one of the key spokespersons or representatives of the city when dealing with any outside agency or the public. The mayor shall assume the duties of the city administrator during the administrator's absence.

The mayor will appoint commission, board, and/or committee members as needed, subject to approval of the city council. When filling vacancies on the city council, council members will be provided with all applications received and shall be given the opportunity to meet the mayor's appointee choice before voting to approve/disapprove.

All elected or appointed city officials will take an oath of office and swear or affirm that they will uphold the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Oregon and the Charter of the city of Rogue River.

Council members shall keep in mind that they represent the city as a whole and that they may have a quasi-judicial role to perform on occasion and that they will conduct themselves in such a manner so that they do not prejudice themselves when functioning in that capacity.
