The words and phrases defined in this chapter, when used in this title, shall for the purpose of this title have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter.

“Bus”
is any vehicle, including a trailer, designed, used, or maintained for carrying more than fifteen persons including the driver.

“Curb”
means the lateral boundary of the roadway whether such curb is marked by curbing construction or not so marked; “curb” as used in this title shall not include the line dividing the roadway of a street from parking strips in the center of a street, nor from tracks or rights-of-way of public utility companies.

For purposes of this title, a “holiday” is any holiday designated by the state or federal government and which is observed by the city as a city holiday.

“Loading zone”
means a space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials marked and designated as hereinafter provided within this title.

“Parkway”
means that portion of the public right-of-way other than that reserved for vehicular travel or a sidewalk.

“Police officer”
means every officer of the police department of this city or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations as defined under Cal. Pen. Code § 830.
