A. 
Whenever any person driving a vehicle approaches a railroad grade crossing under any circumstances stated in this section, the driver of such vehicle shall stop within 50 feet but not less than 15 feet from the nearest rail of such railroad, and shall not proceed until safe to do so. Such requirements shall apply when:
1. 
A clearly visible electric or mechanical signal device gives warning of the immediate approach of a railroad train.
2. 
A crossing gate is lowered or when an authorized flagperson gives or continues to give a signal of the approach or passage of a railroad train.
3. 
A railroad train approaching within approximately 1,500 feet of the street crossing emits a signal audible from such distance and such railroad train, by reason of its speed or nearness to such crossing, is an immediate hazard.
4. 
An approaching railroad train is plainly visible and is in hazardous proximity to such crossing.
B. 
No person may drive any vehicle through, around or under any crossing gate or barrier at a railroad crossing while such gate or barrier is closed or is being opened or closed.

A. 
The traffic engineer is authorized to:
1. 
Designate street grade crossings of railroads; and
2. 
Erect stop signs at street grade crossings of railroads.
3. 
When such stop signs are erected, the driver of any vehicle shall stop within 50 feet, but not less than 15 feet, from the nearest rail of such railroad and shall proceed only upon exercising due care.

A. 
The driver of any motor vehicle carrying passengers for hire, except a taxicab, or of any school bus carrying any schoolchild, or of any vehicle carrying explosive substances or flammable liquids as a cargo or part of a cargo, before crossing at grade any track of a railroad, shall stop such vehicle within 50 feet but not less than 15 feet from the nearest rail of such railroad and while so stopped shall listen and look in both directions along such track for any approaching train, and for signals indicating the approach of a train, except as provided in this section, and shall not proceed until safe to do so. After stopping as required in this subsection and upon proceeding when it is safe to do so, the driver of any such vehicle shall cross only in such gear of the vehicle that there will be no necessity for changing gears while traversing such crossing, and the driver shall not shift gears while crossing the track.
B. 
A school bus driver approaching a railroad grade crossing shall activate the school bus's amber lights for a distance not less than 300 feet before stopping at a railroad grade crossing. After stopping, the amber lights shall be deactivated,
C. 
No stop is required at any crossing where a police officer or a traffic control signal directs traffic to proceed.

A. 
No person may operate or move any crawler type tractor, steam or power shovel, derrick or roller, or any equipment or structure having a normal operating speed of ten or less miles per hour, or a vertical body or load clearance of less than one-half inch per foot of the distance between any two adjacent axles, or in any event of less than nine inches, measured above the level surface of a roadway, upon or across any tracks at a railroad grade crossing without first complying with this section.
B. 
Notice of any such intended crossing shall be given to a station agent of such railroad, and a reasonable time shall be given to such railroad to provide proper protection at such crossing.
C. 
Before making any such crossing the person operating or moving any such vehicle or equipment shall first stop the vehicle or equipment not less than 15 feet and not more than 50 feet from the nearest rail of such railroad, and while so stopped shall listen and look in both directions along such track for any approaching train and for signals indicating the approach of a train, and shall not proceed until the crossing can be made safely.
D. 
No such crossing may be made when warning is given by automatic signal or crossing gates or an authorized flagperson or otherwise of the immediate approach of a railroad train or car. If a flagperson is provided by the railroad, movement over the crossing shall be under the flagperson's direction.

No driver may enter an intersection or a marked crosswalk unless there is sufficient space on the other side of the intersection or crosswalk to accommodate the driver's vehicle without obstructing the passage of other vehicles or pedestrians, notwithstanding any traffic control signal indication to proceed.

A. 
The driver of a vehicle upon a street, upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus which has stopped on the street for the purpose of receiving or discharging any schoolchildren, shall stop the vehicle before reaching such school bus when there is in operation on the school bus a visual signal as specified in section 9.44.190, and the driver may not proceed until such school bus resumes motion, or the driver is signaled by the school bus driver to proceed or the visual signals are no longer actuated.
B. 
A driver upon a street with separate roadways, with two or more lanes in each direction, is not required to:
1. 
Stop upon meeting a school bus traveling in the opposite direction;
2. 
Stop when passing a school bus on a different roadway; or
3. 
Stop when passing a school bus on a controlled access street where the school bus is stopped in a loading zone part of or adjacent to such street and where pedestrians are not permitted to cross the roadway.
C. 
A vehicle owner, or in the case of a leased vehicle a lessee, is guilty of an infraction and may be punished by a fine of $150.00, if the vehicle owned or leased by the person is operated in violation of this section. The owner or lessee may not be penalized if the vehicle was stolen. This subsection does not apply to a lessor of a vehicle if the lessor keeps a record of the name and address of the lessee. A violation of this subsection does not constitute grounds for assessment of demerit points. This subsection does not prohibit or limit the prosecution of a vehicle driver for violating subsection A or B of this section.

No person may proceed across an intersection without first coming to a full stop when the electronic, electrical or mechanical traffic control device present at that intersection has become inoperative. Each driver approaching such an intersection shall proceed as if each street which forms the intersection is posted with a stop sign.
