AMMUNITION
For purposes of this article, Ammunition shall be defined as any bullet, shot, shell, rocket, or projectile of any type expelled from a Firearm as defined above.
FIREARM
For purposes of the article, a Firearm is defined as any weapon or gun (including a Starter gun), a rifle, shotgun, including a revolver, automatic weapon or semi-automatic weapon which is designed or may be converted to expel a bullet, shot, or projectile, and shall further include a firearm silencer or muffling device.
OWNER or AUTHORIZED USER
For purposes of this article, Owner or Authorized User is defined as any individual who has obtained the necessary permits to purchase and/or carry a firearm under Federal, State and local law.
It shall be a violation of this article for any person:
A. 
To leave or store a firearm in any place unless the firearm is secured in a locked container or equipped with a tamper resistant mechanical lock or other safety device. This section does not apply to a firearm that is being carried by its owner or another lawfully authorized user or a firearm that is in close enough proximity to its owner or another lawfully authorized user that it can be readily carried.
B. 
To leave a firearm on any premises under his or her control, whether or not secured as set forth in Subsection A above, which comes into possession of an individual who is prohibited, under state or federal law, from purchasing or possessing firearms is likely to gain access to the firearm.
A. 
Nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent a legal owner of a firearm to lawfully keep or carry about the owner's place of business, residence, premises, or other land owned or possessed by the owner, any firearm, or from carrying the firearm, in the manner in accordance with N.J.S.A. 2C:39-1 et. seq. or other applicable State and Federal Law governing firearm.
