There is created in the Kitsap County sheriff’s office a Kitsap County sheriff’s office jail.

The Kitsap County sheriff’s office jail shall be headed and supervised by the Kitsap County sheriff. The sheriff is delegated the responsibility of adopting standards as contemplated by RCW 70.48.071 and implementing jail policies and procedures consistent with the minimums necessary to meet federal and state constitutional and statutory requirements relating to health, safety, and welfare of inmates, staff, and the public, as appropriate for jail facilities.

There shall be a jail superintendent who shall be directly responsible to the Kitsap County sheriff. It shall be the duty of the jail superintendent to direct all activities of the Kitsap County sheriff’s office jail including the supervision of all jail employees and prisoners. The jail superintendent duties shall be performed in accordance with policies determined by the sheriff and as required by federal and state law.
