Notwithstanding the provisions of Chapter 2.70 TMC, no person shall be eligible to be appointed to or hold the office of police justice of the town of Twisp unless he is a resident and elector therein. In accordance with RCW 35.27.520, as amended (L. '69, Ch. 28, s.1, effective March 18, 1969), any person otherwise eligible to the office of police justice may be appointed to such office, without regard to whether he is a justice of the peace or practicing attorney.

The term of office of a person appointed to the office of police justice shall be for a period of four years from and after the date of his appointment. The term of office of a person appointed police justice shall commence as of the date of appointment and the filing of his oath of office and bond. In the event of a vacancy in the office of police justice created by resignation, death, removal or other cause, the position shall be filled by new appointment in accordance with the provisions for appointment of a police justice herein provided, and the term of office of a person so appointed to fill the position created by a vacancy shall be for a full term of four years.

No person shall enter upon the performance of the duties of police justice until he has taken and filed with the town clerk, his oath of office and shall have filed a public official surety bond with the town clerk in the sum of $1,000.

The office of police justice of the town of Twisp shall be filled by appointment of the mayor and the mayor of the town is hereby authorized and directed to appoint the police justice of the town in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.
