The office of marshal shall hereafter be designated as the chief of police and the office shall be appointed by the city manager.

The chief of police shall be responsible for and be in charge of policing and patrolling the city, enforcing all laws and ordinances in general; perform all duties and exercise all powers pertaining to such office as provided by law and ordinances of the city.
