It is unlawful for any person to fire or discharge any gun, cannon, rifle, pistol, air gun, toy pistol or firearm of any kind, or make use of any sling within the city limits without first obtaining a written permit therefor from the chief of police, which permit shall specify the date, time and place of the permissible use allowed thereunder; provided, however, that this chapter shall not be construed as to prohibit police officers from discharging their official duties.
