The standards listed in this article cover materials which will conform to the requirements of this chapter when used in accordance with the limitations imposed in other articles of the chapter. Materials for special conditions or materials not provided herein may be used only with the approval of the administrative authority.
Standard specifications for materials for plumbing installations are listed in the following sections of this chapter. Products conforming to any of the specifications listed for a given material shall be considered acceptable and as approved by the administrative authority.
Each length of pipe and each pipe fitting, trap, fixture and device used in a plumbing system shall have cast, stamped or indelibly marked on it the maker's name, the weight and the quality of the product when such marking is required by the approved standard that applies.
Cast-iron soil and waste pipe and fittings for drainage and venting shall be uncoated and shall otherwise conform to the standard specification for cast-iron soil pipe and fittings of the American Standard Cast-Iron Soil Pipe and Fittings A40.1-1935.
Wrought-iron pipe shall conform to the specifications for welded wrought-iron pipe of the ASTM A72-45 and shall be galvanized.
Steel pipe shall conform to the standard specifications for welded and seamless steel pipe of the ASTM A120-47 and shall be galvanized.
Brass pipe shall conform to the specifications for brass pipe, standard sizes of the ASTM B43-47, except that the minimum proportion of copper shall be 85%.
Copper pipe size shall conform to the standard specifications for copper pipe, standard sizes of the ASTM B42-47.
Lead pipe shall be of the best quality of drawn pipe, with the minimum weights per linear foot given in the following table:

All lead water service pipes installed in the City of Hudson shall be of the quality known commercially as Grade AAA and shall be in conformity with the specifications for AAA lead.

Plastic pipe and fittings are allowed in the City of Hudson, New York, for use in plumbing aboveground. Plastic pipe and fittings may be used for drain, waste and vent systems only. Types ABS and PVC recommended by the New York State Building and Construction Code are the only types to be used.
Sheet copper or brass shall be no lighter than No. 18 Brown and Sharpe gauge, except for the local and interior ventilating pipe, which shall be no lighter than No. 26 Brown and Sharpe gauge.
A. 
Plain, screwed fittings shall be of cast iron, galvanized malleable iron, brass or copper and shall be of at least standard weight and dimension.
B. 
Drainage fittings shall be recessed type of cast iron, galvanized malleable iron, brass or copper, with smooth interior waterway, with threads so tapped out of solid metal that branches shall have a uniform grade of at least 1/8 of an inch per foot.
C. 
Cast-iron fittings used for water supply distribution shall be galvanized.
Brass caulking ferrules shall be of brass pipe conforming to ASTM Specification B4-47 or of heavy cast red brass with weight and dimensions in accordance with said specification.
