Every bathroom, toilet room or other room containing one or more water closets or urinals, placed in any structure, shall be ventilated in one of the following ways.
Bathrooms, toilet rooms or other rooms containing one or more water closets or urinals may be ventilated by one or more windows opening to a street, yard or court of lawful dimensions on the same lot or plot. Such windows shall have at least 10% of the floor area. At least 50% required area shall be clear ventilating area but every window shall be at least six square feet in area. The partitions of water closet and urinal compartments must extend to the ceiling or be independently sealed over, partitions and ceiling to be built tight.
All water closet and urinal compartments and toilet rooms shall be lighted with natural light, wherever it is practical, by means of a window opening directly to the outer air. All partitions, light and ventilation shall be provided before any water closet or urinal is set.
Bathrooms, toilet rooms or other rooms containing one or more water closets or urinals may be ventilated by a window of the size specified in § 221-304 of this article, opening on a vent shaft which extends to and through the roof, or into a court of lawful dimensions and which has a cross-sectional area of at least 1/5 of a square foot for every foot of height, but at least nine square feet. No such shaft shall be less than two feet in its least dimension and, unless such shaft opens to the outer air at the top, there shall be a net area of fixed louver openings in the skylight equal to the required shaft area. Shaft or court referred to in this article shall mean a shaft or court on the same lot with the structure.
Bathrooms, toilet rooms or other rooms containing one or more water closets or urinals may be ventilated by an individual vent duct extending independently of any other duct or ventilating system in the structure to or above the roof and having a cross-sectional area of at least one square foot for one or two water closets or urinal fixtures and 1/3 of a square foot additional for each additional water closet or urinal fixture. The outer end of any ventilation duct shall be protected with a louver and screen or fitted with a weather cap and screen. This ventilating duct shall be made of galvanized iron and shall have a ventilator register with closing and opening chain.
Bathrooms, toilet rooms or other rooms containing one or more water closets or urinals may be ventilated by a skylight in the ceiling having a glazed surface of at least six square feet with movable louvers ventilating openings of at least three square feet to the outer air above the roof.

Bathrooms, toilet rooms or other rooms containing one or more water closets or urinals may be ventilated by some approved system of mechanical exhaust ventilation of sufficient capacity to exhaust at least 35 cubic feet of air per minute per water closet and per urinal for public toilet rooms and at least 25 cubic feet per minute for private interior bathroom, and in no case shall less than six changes of air in the toilet room or compartment be allowed per hour.
B. 
If a mechanical system of ventilation is used, such system shall consist of metal duct extending from the individual toilet rooms or compartments to a fan or fans of sufficient capacity to exhaust a volume of not less than the amounts specified in the preceding subsection.
C. 
The exhaust duct shall discharge into the outer air above the room and in such manner as not to create objectionable odors or a nuisance on the premises or adjacent premises.
Ventilation from toilet rooms shall be separate and distinct and have no connection whatever with the other ventilating ducts in the building.
Nothing in this article shall be deemed to conflict with the provisions of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code or the City of Hudson Building Code.[2]
