A local disaster emergency may be declared by the Board of Commissioners
upon finding a disaster has occurred or is imminent. The Board of
Commissioners may authorize the Township Manager or the President
of the Board of Commissioners to declare a local disaster emergency
subject to ratification by the Board of Commissioners.
A declaration of local disaster emergency may continue for a
period of seven days and may be extended by authorization of the Board
of Commissioners beyond the initial seven-day time period. Any local
disaster emergency declaration shall be in accordance with the Pennsylvania
Emergency Management Services Code, 35 Pa.C.S.A. § 7501 et seq.,
as amended.
The effect of a local disaster emergency declaration is to activate
the response and recovery aspects of the Township's emergency management
plan and authorize the Township and its Township Emergency Management
Coordinator to coordinate the activities of the emergency response
with county and state officials, and to take such other emergency
response action deemed necessary to respond to the local disaster
emergency in accordance with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management
Services Code.
