A. 
The office of appointed Town Assessor is hereby created pursuant to § 1557 of the Real Property Tax Law, such Assessor to have the powers and perform the duties of the office as provided in § 1522 of such law.[1] The Town Assessor shall be appointed by the Town Board of the Town of Pendleton and shall serve for a term of six (6) years, except as otherwise provided in § 4-2 of this chapter.

B. 
The Town Assessor shall comply in all respects with the provisions of § 1522 of the Real Property Tax Law and shall be compensated as determined by the Town Board.
Upon the establishment of the office of appointed Assessor, the term of any Assessor appointed by the Town Board shall commence from the date of such appointment and shall terminate on September 30, 1983. The term of any subsequent appointment shall be for six (6) years as so provided in § 1522 of the Real Property Tax Law.
This chapter shall be adopted subject to a permissive referendum in the manner prescribed in § 24 of the Municipal Home Rule Law[1] and shall take effect forty-five (45) days after its adoption. Upon the appointment and taking of the oath of office of the appointed Assessor, the terms of office of all elected Assessors then in office shall terminate.
