[HISTORY: Adopted by the Town Board of the Town of Van Buren 4-29-1992. Amendments noted where applicable.]
It is the policy of the Town of Van Buren that surplus equipment and personal property shall be disposed of in an orderly, equitable and efficient manner.
The following procedure shall be utilized by the Town of Van Buren for the disposal of surplus equipment and personal property of the town.
A. 
Prior to the transfer of any town equipment or personal property by the town, the Town Board shall make a determination that such property is surplus.
B. 
In the event that the Board shall designate town equipment or personal property as being surplus property, the Town Supervisor shall dispose of the same at a public or private sale held in a commercially reasonable manner which the Supervisor shall deem appropriate.[1]

C. 
Following the disposal of any item of personal property or equipment, the Supervisor shall report to the Town Board the fact that the item has been disposed of and the manner of disposal of the profits, if any, received by the town from the sale.
D. 
The time and manner of the sale shall be determined by the Town Supervisor.
This policy and procedure does not apply to the disposal of surplus motor vehicles by receiving a credit toward the purchase of an alternate vehicle.
