state law.

Department shall be such as is from time to time established by the
Council.

Each member shall make application for annual
vacation in writing to the Chief of Police. Preference shall be given
to the application in the order of rank and seniority of service.
The members of the Police Force shall be entitled
to such holidays as prescribed by the Council by resolution. If a
member of the Police Force is required to work on a holiday, the member
shall either be compensated for such work in addition to holiday pay
or shall be allowed a compensatory day off.
When a police officer is called to duty during
a relief period, the officer shall be thereafter allowed equivalent
time off from duty as compensatory time.
No member of the Department shall be absent
from duty unless first excused by the Chief or the Deputy Chief for
due cause.
If a member is unable to report for duty due
to illness or injury, the member shall immediately report the disability
to the Chief or Deputy Chief so that the member can be excused and
arrangements can be made for a substitute.
A member shall be considered on disability leave
from the date the member is excused, as aforesaid, until the date
when the member is able to return to duty.
Any member who is on disability leave is required
to remain at the member's home or hospital unless otherwise authorized
in writing by the Chief or the Deputy Chief.
No member shall be required to return from disability
leave to duty until certified fit by a physician.
The Police Committee may order a member to submit
to a medical examination by a police physician at any time it deems
the same necessary or desirable.
Any member of the Department shall be paid regular
compensation while on disability leave; provided, however, that the
member shall furnish proper proof of the nature of the ailment and
its continuance from time to time to the satisfaction of the Police
Committee. Should the Committee, after investigation, determine that
further leave is unjustified, it may terminate the same and instruct
the member to return to duty or suffer a termination of compensation.
