The Town Manager, upon recommendation from the Fire Chief, may appoint fire/police traffic safety personnel.
Fire/police traffic safety personnel shall be empowered to direct, restrict and/or divert traffic and to act pursuant to the specific direction and authorization of law enforcement or Standish Fire/EMS at the scene of fires, accidents or when called to duty by either law enforcement or Standish Fire/EMS. Such fire/police traffic safety personnel shall have none of the other powers of regular police or fire officers. Any uniform, emblem or gear worn by such fire/police traffic safety personnel, will be based on approval of the Town Manager and the Fire Chief. Such individuals shall not have the power of arrest nor to issue legal process and shall not wear, carry or display any firearm.
The Fire Chief will have direct control and supervision of such fire/police traffic safety personnel. In the absence of the Fire Chief, the fire/police traffic safety personnel will be directed by the senior fire officer at the scene.
Fire/police traffic safety personnel appointed under the terms of this chapter may be removed by the Town Manager and/or the Fire Chief for cause after notice and hearing.
