A. 
The Board of Selectmen is hereby authorized, and as to those signs and signals required hereunder it shall be its duty, to place and maintain or cause to be placed and maintained all official traffic signs, signals, markings and safety zones. All signs, signals, markings and safety zones shall conform to the standards as prescribed by the Department of Public Works of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
B. 
Sections 250-7 and 250-8 of Article II and §§ 250-36 through 250-40 relating to parking shall be effective only during such time as official signs are erected and maintained in each block designating the provision of such sections and located so as to be easily visible to approaching drivers. Sufficient number of such signs must be provided so that a car cannot be parked in a limited or prohibited parking place without having the legend side of such a sign, clearly setting forth the parking regulation thereat, visible from that location.
It shall be unlawful for any person to place or maintain or to display upon or in view of any street any unofficial sign, signal or marking which purports to be or is an imitation of or resembles an official traffic sign, signal, marking or device or which attempts to direct the movement of traffic or which hides from view any official sign or signal. The Chief of Police is hereby empowered to remove every such prohibited sign, signal or marking or cause it to be removed, without notice.

A. 
Access and egress. Within the limits of the federal aid project, neither additional driveways (commercial or residential) nor relocations or alterations of existing driveways shall be permitted unless they are in conformance with Department standards and receive prior written approval from the Department.
B. 
Traffic island. Traffic islands or median islands and traffic devices thereon are not to be installed, altered or removed without the prior written approval of the Department. Parking is prohibited on and adjacent to all traffic islands and median islands within the federal aid project.
C. 
Traffic control signals.
(1) 
Traffic control signals shall be operated in street accordance with the timing sequence and layout as shown on the plans of this project.
(2) 
Changes in the sequence or operation of traffic signals located in the federal aid project are not to be made without the written approval of the Department.
(3) 
Traffic control signals, the operation of which is pertinent to the federal aid project area covered by the agreement, are located to control traffic as shown on the plans and as listed below for Federal Aid Project No. M-000S (306) for the intersections of:
(a) 
East and West Main Streets, North Street and Central Street.
(b) 
Central Street and Library Street.
(4) 
The Town of Georgetown shall have the ownership, maintenance and operational responsibility of all traffic control signals within this project.
D. 
Miscellaneous. Traffic controls or regulations instituted either by the Department or the town on ways or parts thereof within the federal aid project are to remain in force and effect until proposed future changes have been approved in writing by the Department. The Department will not approve any future proposed traffic control changes within the federal aid project which will, in the opinion of the Department, lessen to any degree the efficient utilization of the highway for traffic purposes.
E. 
Maintenance. The Town of Georgetown in accordance with the provisions of Section 109(d) and 116 of Title 23 of the United States Code will properly maintain the way and all traffic control devices, including signs and pavement markings under the control of the town within the project area.
F. 
Penalty. Failure on the part of the town to fulfill its responsibility in the proper maintenance and operation and the enforcement of the traffic regulations of the completed facility will disqualify the town from future federal aid participation on projects in which the town has maintenance responsibility, as provided in Title 23, United States Code. Such failure shall also result in withholding or withdrawing of the unexpended balance of any funds assigned to the Town of Georgetown under the provisions of MGL C. 90, § 34, as amended by Chapter 603 of the Legislative Acts of 1962.
